Bread. Cinnamon. Milk. Butter. Egg.

Nothing bad can come out of that combination, right? Similar combination may appear in Bread Butter Pudding, but we’ll save that for later. French Toast is something that you can create in an instant. You wake up, open the kitchen cabinet, prepare your pan, and your French Toast is less than seven minutes away. It’s so simple yet so good. Karena itulah Cinnamon French Toast menjadi salah satu resep sarapan favorit anak-anak di rumah.

It’s weekend. Easy morning for the kids because they don’t have to rush to school. Atisha was so excited when I told her that we were going to make Cinnamon French Toast. Still in her pajamas, she insisted to help me out in the kitchen. I let her whisk the eggs first. Baru setelah itu dia mau ganti baju.

While Atisha is changing, I give the eggs some extra beatings and prepare other ingredients: vanilla bean powder (you can get it from here), cinnamon powder, and nutmeg powder.

Tambahkan susu cair ke campuran telur. Taburi bubuk vanilla, bubuk kayu manis, dan bubuk pala.

She’s back, already changed and still enthusiastic. I let her whisk some more  to make the whole thing incorporated.

Panaskan mentega di wajan.

Celupkan roti ke dalam campuran telur, bolak-balik kedua sisinya. Panaskan di wajan hingga roti menjadi cokelat keemasan.

Cinnamon French Toast siap dilahap. But… wait. It’s not yet perfect until you drizzle some real maple syrup.

Prepare a mug of black coffee (or any other hot drinks you prefer) and your scrumptious breakfast is all set.

There are many ways to enjoy your french toast, really. Atisha decides to sprinkle some raisins. A bit of chocolate chips also won’t hurt, right? Atau alih-alih pakai sirup maple, bisa juga ditaburi gula halus. Or chocolate sauce? Or a spread of Nutella? Or some fruit jam? Your pantry is your limit.

Ah. The little girl is happy now. It’s time to sit back, devour my own slices of Cinnamon French Toast while the aroma of Java Mocha coffee from my french press fills the air.

Cinnamon French Toast

Bahan:

• 2 telur
• 75 ml susu cair
• ½ sdt kayu manis bubuk
• ¼ sdt pala
• ¼ sdt bubuk vanilla / ekstrak vanilla
• Mentega
• 6 helai roti tawar berkulit

Cara membuat:

1. Dalam wadah, kocok telur. Masukkan susu cair, kayu manis, pala, bubuk/ekstrak vanilla. Kocok rata.
2. Siapkan piring lebar yang sedikit cekung, tuang adonan telur. Celupkan roti dengan cara membaringkan tiap sisinya satu per satu.
3. Panaskan mentega. Goreng roti hingga cokelat keemasan.

• Kalau roti dirasa terlalu basah, kurangi jumlah susu.
• Shaping the bread with cookie/bread cutter will make a fun breakfast for children.
